Help Emotions Dance Company Dancers get to NYC!

Emotions Dance company members have a chance to go to New York City for a 4 day weekend of dance education with the nations top contemporary masters. Help us get there. Our goal is to raise $3,000 so that we can take master classes from the best in the business. By helping us get to NYC, you will be enhancing our dance education which will, in turn, help us bring audiences even better performances.

$3,000 is all we need to cover airfaire, hotel, food and classes from the best of the best in the industry (Ex: Mia Michaels, Desmond Richardson, Wade Robson, Brian Friedman and MORE). Help us reach our goal by July 25th!

Emotions Dance Auditions for new Professional Dancers –

Orlando, FL- Emotions Dance is currently seeking professional level dancers (age 18 and over) to audition for their 2011 season. Dancers must have technical knowledge and skills in one or more of the following dance disciplines: ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, or contemporary dance. Auditions will take place on Tuesday nights throughout the month of October (Oct 12, 19, and 26) from 9-11pm, and will be located at Starz Studios (109 State Road 436 in Casselberry, FL).
Dancers should be prepared for ballet barre, progressions across the floor with turns and jumps, a contemporary dance combination, and should prepare a solo (under 2 minutes) to show to the Artistic Director at the end of class. Dancers should also come prepared with a professional resume and headshot. There is a $10 audition fee.
Dancers are able to sign a 3, 6, or 12 month contract. Pay is based on ticket sales for shows and other factors and can be discussed during the audition. Dancers who make the company will be expected to commit to company class on Tuesdays and Thursdays and all rehearsals which are held on Sunday evenings. Currently, Emotions Dance has two spots open for females, three spots open for males, and one trainee (between ages 12-18) spot available.
Emotions Dance was founded in August 2007 by Artistic Director and Choreographer, Larissa Humiston. Emotions Dance draws its strength from dancers of all dance disciplines and walks of life. Emotions Dance proudly aligns with causes and organizations which better individuals and groups through awareness, fundraising and exploration of the roots of societal and environmental issues. To continue providing our community with heartfelt, artistic and moving performances, Emotions Dance is currently applying for 501c3 (non-profit) status.

Emotions Dance Performs At Red Chair 2010

Emotions Dance Company will be alongside some of Orlando’s top talent at this year’s Red Chair Affair. The company will be previewing a piece from our upcoming performance Poetry in Motion and alongside spoken word artist, Tod Caviness, Emotions Dancers will use contemporary dance to tell the story of “Daughter and Sun”. Music was originally composed by local band, The Forefathers.

We are very excited to be a part of this year’s Red Chair Affair 2010. Other groups performing at this years production include, Cirque Du Soleil, Orlando Ballet, Orlando Philharmonic and Varietease.

The show will take place Saturday Aug 28 at The Bob Carr Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $22 and can bu purchased at www.redchairproject.com

Emotions Dance holds Masquerade Cocktail Benefit

Emotions Dance announced today it will host a cocktail benefit on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 9pm until 2am at The Peacock Room (1321 North Mills Ave, Orlando 32803). Admission for the benefit, set to include a masquerade theme, is only $5.
The cocktail benefit will feature live music from The Forefathers and Damien Simon and spoken word poetry from Orlando’s top spoken word artists (Tod Caviness, J. Bradley, Curtis Meyer and Shannon Kortbek). Also included in the evening will be a silent auction, showcasing artwork and items from such places as Winestyles, United Arts and The Plaza Theatre as well as a 50/50 raffle. Drink specials will be available and Prizes will be awarded for the evenings top masquerade outfits.
Proceeds from the evening’s events will help Emotions Dance fund their next production, Poetry In Motion, which will fuse music, contemporary dance, and live spoken word to tell stories of the human experience. Poetry in Motion is set to premiere Oct 1 and 2, 2010 at the Winter Park Playhouse.
“It’s important to me to collaborate with other artists in order to enhance our performances,” said Emotions Dance artistic director and the show’s choreographer, Larissa Humiston. “Poetry In Motion does just that. Each of the artists involved has a chance to create their art freely and in this way, the show provides audiences with a raw and enhanced artistic experience.”

Untold Stories II touches many!

I know this post is late in the making, but believe me, when you are producing a show, while working a full time 40 hour a week job, while making sure you have a life, while visiting New York, while catching up on your FRINGE shows, it can take a while to post. Emotions Dance just finished our second annual production of Untold Stories II and it was a success! The Winter Park Playhouse hosted us with class and grace and we loved working with all of them. Saturday night the house was packed, and the energy was truly amazing. Sunday night’s crowd was slightly lighter, however the energy was the same. Jim White took some amazing photos (that you see throughout this blog) and it really captured the essence of the production. For those of you that missed it, Untold Stories is a bi-annual production that looks at issues of abuse, disease, and despair. Yes that might sound dark and dreary, but by examining these social issues Emotions hopes to bring upon discussion, hope, and ultimately…change. Don’t miss the next one, which will premiere sometime in 2012. But don’t worry, you don’t have to wait until then for our next production…we have performances scheduled (so far) in July, August, September, October, February, and April. You will have plenty of time to catch us.

Now onto auditioning dancers for our upcoming season, and to new art and new creativity!

One Week Away!

Emotions Dance Company

With Untold Stories II less than a week away, it is that time where I, as the artistic director and choreographer (for the majority of the pieces) take time to reflect on this show.

I undoubtedly think that this show is one of the strongest that Emotions has put on. I have strong dancers, who not only are amazing technicians, but beautiful artists. They make the pieces come to life, and I can honestly say, that they are all of the same high calibur, which makes everything run much more smoothly.

Choreographically, this is my strongest show.. and I have to say that I am proud of myself. I have listened to my critiques, while staying true to myself and my message, and think that I have really grown through the creating of this production. I hope I continue to grow, and I also hope that audiences that have been following us for a while will notice the growth.

Of course, through all of this, I want people to come to the show… I want them to notice Emotions, I want them to be moved by this production, as I know I have been moved in creating it.

– Emotions Dance reveals stories of the human experience in Untold Stories II –

Emotions Dance reveals stories of the human experience in an original contemporary dance performance titled, Untold Stories II, which premieres May 15 at 7pm and May 16 at 4pm at The Winter Park Playhouse, located at 711 N. Orange Ave, Winter Park 32789. Tickets for this event are $20 and can be purchased online at www.emotionsdanz.com starting May 1, 2010 or at the door the day of the performance.

Untold Stories originally premiered in August of 2008 and captured audiences with emotional stories about addiction, abuse and despair. Untold Stories II has new choreography and new stories, but with the same message- -let’s start talking. As with the original Untold Stories, the second edition, hopes to bring attention to the emotional complexities that lie beneath difficult and touching issues. “Though we’re commenting on difficult subject matter, the show is about courage and hope,” explains Larissa Humiston, Emotions Dance Artistic Director and the show’s choreographer. “Untold Stories II explores Pandora’s Box to confront the darkness in order to turn on the light. By exploring our universal truths, the show inspires dialogue, understanding and, ultimately, healing.”

An Emotions Update

Emotions Dance has been extremely busy both in doing the Bacchus Bash on April 9, while also preparing for our upcoming production Untold Stories II. Bacchus Bash was on April 9 at the Premium Outlets by Lake Buena Vista. The stage was a bit difficult for dancing, as it had raised metal seams, but our dancers made it through and did a wonderful job. Bacchus Bash raises funds for Hospitality students in the Central Florida Area.

We are also finished with putting together the pieces for Untold Stories II. The dancers have done a wonderful job and everything is looking very good. This project, for me, the shows Artistic Director and Choreographer, has produced some of my best work, and I can’t wait to see it on stage and see the audience reaction. We are only one month away and I cannot wait! Tickets go on sale May 1st online or can be bought at the door. Don’t miss it!

Emotions Dance Company will be performing 3 pieces from our upcoming production, Untold Stories II for the Bacchus Bash on April 9. Emotions will be performing from 7-7:30pm on the main stage. This event is designed to help raise funds for Hospitality students and Emotions is very happy to be a part of it.

We are also getting ready for Untold Stories II which is going to be absolutely breathtaking. Untold Stories II is an expansion of the first Untold Stories that premiered in August of 2008 and was very well received by audiences all over Central Florida. Untold Stories II takes audiences on a heartfelt journey using contemporary dance as we explore stories of addiction, abuse and despair. Thought provoking and emotionally raw, the ultimate purpose of Untold Stories II is to get people talking about these “taboo” topics and start making a change. This event will be May 15 & 16 at the Winter Park Playhouse.
